What's in the spiced rum making kit?
Two spice blends, Captain's blend and Jamaican ginger, a reusable cotton filter and a tasting pipette, plus full instructions. You add the rum.
What rum should I buy?
An inexpensive plain dark rum that is not already spiced, one 700ml bottle per batch. The spicing is the kit's job, so no need to spend a lot.
How does it work?
Add a spice sachet to the rum and infuse in a cool dark place for about 72 hours, tasting with the pipette. Filter out the spices, let it settle, filter again and bottle.
How long does it take?
About 72 hours to infuse, then 2 to 3 days to settle and clear, so under a week per batch.
Can I make it as spiced as I like?
Yes. Taste through the 72 hours with the pipette and filter when the spice level is right for you. Leave it longer for bolder, filter sooner for gentler.
How many bottles does it make?
Two 700ml batches in two different flavours.
How should I store it?
Once bottled, keep it like any spirit, sealed and out of direct light. Spirits keep well.
